Do you dream of that perfect Caribbean escape? Picture this: golden sand between your toes, crystal-clear turquoise water stretching to the horizon, and you sipping a perfectly crafted rum punch or a beer in our case on an undisturbed beach with absolutely zero thoughts of work or that never-ending to-do list waiting at home. Well, Antigua might not check every single box on your perfect Caribbean fantasy, but trust me—it comes pretty darn close.
Antigua has earned a permanent spot on our list of favorite Caribbean islands, and for good reason. This twin-island nation (don't forget little sister Barbuda!) offers the perfect trifecta: stunning beaches, incredible food, and fascinating historical sites. Whether you're the type who wants to pack every minute with adventure or someone who dreams of doing absolutely nothing but relaxing in the sand, Antigua delivers.
The Famous 365 Beach Promise
Here's a fun fact that never gets old: Antigua boasts 365 beaches—one for every day of the year. Now, we definitely haven't conquered all of them ( it's a goal ), but we've certainly given some of the best a proper test drive.
If you only have a few days in Antigua, these are the beaches worth your time — and a few that most tourists completely miss.
Where We Stay & What We Bring

Ffryes Beach — Our Favorite
If we had to pick one beach to come back to again and again — and we have — it's Ffryes. Wide, beautiful, calm turquoise water you can see straight through, and practically empty when cruise vans aren't in port. Once you're in the water it's warm, shallow and calm. Basically a pool, but infinitely better.
On the north end sits Dennis Cocktail Bar & Restaurant — grilled lobster, curried goat, garlic shrimp, and the best Friday night beach bonfire you'll find anywhere on the Island. DJ all night, dancing on the sand, and Dennis himself making sure everyone has a great time. Ffryes Tiki Bar & Grill is also on the beach — great for a lobster and a cold beer without moving far from the water. Janice is set up near Dennis's with quality souvenirs and dresses at reasonable prices. Lili buys something every single time.
We filmed everything — including going under the water to show you what it's like.
👉 Ffryes Beach - Our Full Guide →
Best for: Couples, sunsets, Friday night bonfire
Crowds: Low to medium — higher when cruise vans arrive
Facilities: Restaurants, vendors, no public restrooms
Worth it: Absolutely — this is our number one
Little Ffryes / Coco Beach — The Quiet One
Walk north on the path past Dennis's, around the corner — about 3-4 minutes — and you're here. Same incredible turquoise water, smaller beach, almost always empty. This isn't a cruise excursion stop so most days it's peaceful and unhurried. The shoreline is covered in seashells and the sound the waves make rolling over them is genuinely something special.
Norma sets up on the north end with dresses, bags and souvenirs — and she does beach massages with one of the best views in Antigua as your backdrop. No food directly on the beach but Sheer Rocks, a cliffside fine dining restaurant above the beach, is worth a reservation.
Best for: Quiet, shell collecting, escaping the crowds
Crowds: Low — rarely busy
Facilities: Minimal — plan ahead
Worth it: Yes — especially paired with a Ffryes day
We take you to Little Ffryes / Coco Beach and show you everything you need to know

Valley Church Beach — Our Second Favorite
Long, palm-lined, beautiful. The turquoise water and the view down the beach is one of our favorites on the island. We spotted turtles here — they were just too fast for the camera.
The north end has chairs, umbrella rentals, public restrooms, a changing cabana and an outdoor shower. Cruise vans arrive late morning to early afternoon — walk south for instant quiet. The Nest Beach Bar & Restaurant is the food option on the beach — we always get the chicken and shrimp roti or the coconut shrimp. There's also usually someone cutting fresh coconuts on the beach. With or without rum. Choose wisely.
A few minutes away, The Fox House Bar & Restaurant is one of our top restaurant picks on the entire island. Open air porch, exceptional service, incredible food. We had an incredible Birthday dinner for Lili There, Truly Outstanding!
Best for: Full beach day, families, great food nearby
Crowds: Medium — cruise vans come and go
Facilities: Best of the group — restrooms, shower, changing cabana
Worth it: Yes — second favorite for a reason
We show you why we enjoy this beach so much.

*** If you're trying to narrow it down, depending on your travel needs — Ffryes, Valley Church, and Jolly are the ones we'd pick first. Everything else is a bonus.
Darkwood Beach — Bring the Whole Group
Long open stretch of white sand, iridescent water that changes color throughout the day, ( It's pretty cool)! and enough going on to keep everyone happy all day. Coral reef in the water means decent snorkeling. Kayak and jet ski rentals on the beach. And sitting in the middle of the water — the Swash Water Park, an inflatable gauntlet the kids will love and the adults will probably want to try.
Three food options: Sunset Horizon Restaurant and Bar on the beach, Darkwood Beach Bar and Restaurant at the far end, and right across the street Aunty Cavell's — locals pointed us here first and they were absolutely right. Some of the best local food on the island and the coconut crush is non-negotiable.
Best for: Families, snorkeling, full day, water sports
Crowds: Medium — long enough beach to absorb them
Facilities: Multiple restaurants, rentals, water park
Worth it: Yes — most options of any beach on the list
We show you everything worth seeing before you go.

Jolly Beach & Jolly Harbour — Your Perfect Beach Day
The longest beach on this list — close to a mile — and the most going on of any beach on the southwest coast. Wide, beautiful, calm water. Turtles if you're patient. The further south you walk from the restaurants, the quieter it gets.
What makes Jolly different is what's behind it. Jolly Harbour is basically a town — restaurants, bars, a marina, tennis, golf, a bakery, and the Epicurean supermarket for stocking up. Sandra's Beach Shop Bar & Grill is right on the beach. In Jolly Harbour stop into Fimo Boutique — Melanie creates custom garments and alterations that are genuinely one of a kind.
Best for: Full day, couples, families, beach plus everything else
Crowds: Manageable — beach is long enough
Facilities: Best of the group — supermarket, marina, shopping nearby
Worth it: Yes — nothing else on this list has this much around it
We cover the whole area — beach, harbour, restaurants and the sunset.

Galleon Beach & Shirley Heights — A Different Side of Antigua
About 30 minutes across the island near English Harbour. Smaller, rockier underfoot (water shoes help), surrounded by yachts anchored in the bay and hiking trails to breathtaking scenery. The snorkeling is hit or miss — we went hoping for turtles and came up short that day, but school was in session for the fish.
Shirley Heights Lookout at 490 feet is the most iconic view in Antigua. Sunday evenings from 4pm there's a full sunset party — BBQ, steel pan band, rum punch, $10 cover. It transitions from tourists early to a genuine local party after the tour buses leave. Thursday nights are reggae and significantly less crowded. We went on one of their busiest Sundays ever — they ran out of white wine. Lili was not happy.
Best for: History lovers, hikers, Sunday night party
Crowds: Low at beach — very busy at Shirley Heights Sundays
Facilities: Restaurant on beach, full facilities at Shirley Heights
Worth it: Yes — but plan ahead, it's a commitment from the west coast
We cover the drive, the beach, the snorkeling attempt and the full Sunday party.

St. John's: Capital Charm Meets Beach Bliss
Many travelers touch down in St. John's, the colorful capital in the northwest corner of the island. This busy port city is where massive cruise ships dock and history comes alive in the rainbow-colored colonial buildings lining the streets. The famous Sandals resort calls this area home, along with several other properties that put you within easy striking distance of both urban exploration and beach time, So basically you have the best of both worlds.
St. John's isn't just a pretty face either — it's home to some fascinating history, including the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda housed in the old colonial courthouse, and the iconic St. John's Cathedral with its distinctive twin towers that have weathered more hurricanes than you can count.
The Airport Executive Lounge
VC Bird International Airport has one lounge — the Executive Lounge near Gate 1. Priority Pass or $60 walk-in. Modern design, great natural light, local artwork, Beautiful outdoor patio with view of the runways. Food is light but good. Staff brings it out to you. Honest take: great with Priority Pass, think twice at $60 out of pocket.
